The critic is hilarious playing with the model of the spaceship!
*sigh* Every review, the same thing.
Aside from that, I have a few more nerd comments for you, from a behind the scenes perspective.
For one, this series was originally supposed to be the pilot for a TV series called "Star Trek: Phase II". Once Star Wars became popular, the pilot was changed into a movie. The pilot's length was one hour. The movie's was around two.
For another, some of the cast was originally not supposed to make it, notably Leonard Nimoy as Spock. But, he eventually signed on, so the replacement Vulcan was turned into a Red Shirt. Seriously, you'd be surprised at how often Star Trek introduces someone just to kill them off.
For a third, the movie was considered a big deal at the time. It was the first new Star Trek work since the Filmation series. The shot of the Enterprise was supposed to get the fans attention and get them cheering. Star Trek fans were weird at the time.
For a fourth, the movie you reviewed was a workprint! Yeah, that's right, it was technically unfinished! The reason why it was released as-is is because the execs were worried that any notice of changes to the movie or delays would anger the fans and cause them to not see the movie. Would you like to know what the movie would be like if it were finished? There's a Director's Cut available that cuts out a bunch of excess footage and adds in more character development.
Well, I guess I should make a few additional comments. Ahem.
I'll be giving my thoughts on the even-numbered movie that follows the odd-numbered movie after I comment on the review.
The next Movie on the list is generally amazing in every way. It's very cerebral, and quite literary as well. I especially like the music when the Reliant first attacks the Enterprise, and the scene where Kirk realizes Khan is only using a 2D idea of space. I give it a 5/5.
Have you seen the 09 film? It's technically odd-numbered (both 11th total and 1st in the new series), so will you be reviewing it?
